After a very successful weekend, full of great shows, the band is back in the ‘Crook Layer’ for some much needed sleep, TLC, relaxed rehearsal, merch inventory, sleep, and sleep. After Friday night’s show alone I was hitting a pretty hard wall. So to add on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon show made my bed all the more inviting. After getting home around 8pm or so we all relaxed, ate some good food, and hit the hay; as it were.
Thank you to all who came out and supported us on Friday night. It was a great show for us on stage and you all made it even better for us. There was nothing but positive vibes streaming forth at the stage. Rich said he met a lot of new fans and great people who stopped by the merch booth to say hello and pick up a new t-shirt. The Salmon Festival in Leavenworth also proved to be a success as we rocked the stage at 2 ‘o clock on Saturday and 3:30 on Sunday. We met a lot of new friends and we can’t wait to return this winter for more festivities at the hatchery grounds as well as up on Stevens Pass! From all of the Crooks, thank you very much for the support and dance moves!
A Day in the Life of a Crook: Every time the van hits the road there seems to be new adventures awaiting our log book and new roads to wear our tires. We share a lot of laughs, a lot of hugs, and, did I say a lot of laughs? If you don’t know Joe Catron yet you are missing out on meeting one of the most fun loving, hop loving, confident, and talented percussionists that we are blessed to have on stage with us. He is the blonde and bearded gentlemen who sits behind the African hand drums. There are a few things you need to know about Joe. First of all, he is one of the most intelligent individuals I know; a human dictionary at times. Secondly, he has the gag reflexes of a three-year-old being tested for Strep. The guy quite literally will gag at the mere thought of something. Why just the other day I had a bad case of wind and he gagged in my presence. I don’t blame him, it wasn’t pleasant in the least, but to gag just at the smell of a fart?! The point of all this introduction takes place on Saturday night just after the band left a private barbecue party. As the van was rolling down Highway 2 back toward the metropolis of Leavenworth a strange scent was lingering throughout the van. Joe started asking who farted? Eric said the van smelled of poop for some odd reason?! The fingers began to point toward Rich and the poor guy, laughing all the while, was wrongfully accused. Suddenly, the culprit was identified; the left shoe of our drummer Chris Green! While walking through the yard back to the van he engraved a pile of dog shit to the under side of his shoe. In an instant the whole van was in a slight state of panic with screams and laughs and windows being opened. And before anyone knew it, Joe had his head buried inside a shopping bag and was doing more than just gagging. He threw up all of the great food he had just consumed at the barbecue and didn’t know what to do with it. With a swift toss the bag in all its glory was tossed to the side of Highway 2. A few miles passed by the van before Joe realized he was missing something important…his tooth. Something else you should know about Joe….after an unfortunate elbow- to-face accident playing a game of trampoline basketball the poor fella lost one of his two front teeth and he has had a fake tooth ever since. And now that fake tooth he has had for so many years was back on the side of the road in a bag of his own vomit. If that’s not something to gag about, I don’t know what is. But somehow he managed to rifle through his own pile of already-digested food to find his tooth without gagging…again. After all is said and done everyone, including Joe’s Front Tooth, survived the whole ordeal. Boy howdy!!
After a few weeks of promotion it has come to my understanding that not everyone knows where Neumos is. Walking through the streets of Seattle one can’t help but notice the countless music venues. From The Nectar Lounge to El Corazone the options are endless. Anyone can be a music lover. But to be a true music lover in Seattle it is essential to know where to go and which venue suits your needs best. Neumos Crystal Ball and Reading Room, A.K.A. Neumos, is a mid sized music venue in Seattle Washington. The venue, which was originally opened as Moe’s Mo’Roc’N Café in 1992 and re-launched in 2003 as Neumos (pronounced “new moe’s”), has been host to many big acts including: The Shins, Ween, The Raconteurs, Muse, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Feist, Bloc Party, The Streets, Kasabian, Jenny Lewis, The Kills, Connor Oberst And The Mystic Valley Band, Iron And Wine, Band Of Horses, and the list goes on. This evening Neumos will have the pleasure of adding Cody Beebe and the Crooks to the list. I can speak for the entire band when I say, “holy shit, I can’t wait to step on stage at Neumos tonight!” For more information and pre-sale tickets go to http://www.neumos.com.
A Day in the Life of the Crooks: As I sit here typing this I look across the office at one of my best friends who is also preparing for tonight’s show. If you don’t know Cody Beebe personally I recommend you acquaint yourself the next time you see a Cody Beebe and the Crooks concert. He is one of the most genuine humans that I know and I take pride in calling him my brother. Before I get too personal and sappy about my relationship with Cody, I’ll stop now and talk about another key ingredient to the deliciousness that is the Crooks. Two words: Rich Brandt. If you haven’t been to a Cody Beebe and the Crooks show lately then you’ve been missing out on, not only great music, but also the presence of Rich Brandt. He is the strikingly handsome young lad who runs our merch booth. If you want to buy our new album, get a new t-shirt, or simply put a smile on your face, come stop by our merch booth at our next show and talk to Rich. I’m actually sitting in the same room with him right now as he changes the pandora radio station to brighten the mood… He’s currently laughing as he holds his phone switching from electronica dance pop to country swing jigs…the thing about Rich is he’s always got a smile on his face. Now I don’t know about you, but I personally find a smile worth more than any amount of money…maybe that’s why they call him Rich? I know I feel rich when I’m around him…oop he just chose Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, “Mammas, Don’t let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys.” Welp, sorry ma I’m not a cowboy, I’m a poor musician in Seattle…But life here is good. Come say hello TONIGHT AT NEUMOS, 9pm!
Hey hey from the Casa de Crook! The Puyallup fair last night prooved to be yet another excellent show. Thank you to all who came out and shook it like it was hot. And hot it was. Joe and myself were dripping with sweat, so much so that my jeans looked like a was jumping in a puddle of water. What can I say?…That’s just how we do it. When you come t0 a Crook’s show prepare yourself for a lot of dancing, laughs, crookedness, and sweat…a lot of sweat! NEXT STOP: Neumos Friday, September 17th (tomorrow). Show starts at 9pm!
A Day in the Life of the Crooks: As I sit here at the kitchen table, with Eric to my right eating what looks to be quacamole and tomatoes on bread, I ponder the excitement about to be had for our coming show tomorrow evening at Neumos…I also ponder what the guacamole on bread is going to do to Eric’s digestive tract, but that’s beside the point. I look forward to seeing two kickass bands perform: Curtains For You and Massy Ferguson. I also look forward to being onstage and dancing my ass off whilst simultaneously making music with my fellow Crook’s! After finishing up our lunch Eric, Joe, Rich, Cody and I are heading out to pick up a few pieces of equipment. Then of course we’ll probably stop off at Carkeek Park to breathe deep and toss some disk. Later today we’ll be greeted by the rest of our fellow Crooks for some band rehearsal and lots of hugs…(sigh*). Speaking for the rest of the Crooks I can’t wait to see all of your beautiful faces out at Neumos tomorrow night!~
Howdy y’all! You alls thinkin you needin some good ol’ boot stompin howdiddy smacky bipitty time! Boyy howdy! Wow…what the $%^$#@ was that? I digress. Cody Beebe and the Crooks will be hitting the Showplex Stage tonight at 8pm at the Puyallup Fair. This will be a full band dance party. You know what lets not even call it a concert…we’re now officially calling it a dance partay. Yeah, I said it, partay…cuz I’m swanky like that.
A Day in the life of the Crooks: After yet another late night of business discussions and tour planning I (Ty) awoke on the office couch snug as a bug on a …couch? I went next door (the other side of the garage) to do my morning workout routine when Rich walked in. He was set aback as he approached and yelled aloud, “holy shit, it’s a young Chuck Norris!” What can I say, I was sold on the Total Gym 1000. After some showers and some nut and honey Crook style we all met in the office (the other side of the garage from the workout station) at 10am sharp to have a sit down with our manager figure Deborah. After a long discussion and some great advice the boys are all plugging away in the home office gettin’ it done. We are however saving some energy for the show tonight which we all hope to see YOU ALL out there at the Puyallup fair….I’m gonna do my hair….I don’t even care….so try not to stare….as Joe runs bare….and get out of your chair…I double dogg dare…..you.
After a great last week of shows the Crooks are back home and rearing to go for what’s to come. What’s to come you ask? On Wednesday, September 15th the band will be lighting up the Puyallup Fair at 8pm on the Showplace Stage! Come one, come all! See some goats, ride some ferris wheel, and try not to kink your neck during Cody Beebe and the Crooks! And if your name is Katie don’t sprain your ankle!….again. If you do show up for the show, and we obviously hope you do, we would like to ask two things from you. First, please don’t be afraid to dance, scream, and come say hello to us after the show. We have t-shirts, tote bags, as well as our new album, “Friends of the Old Mill.” Second, bring your energy! But don’t forget to save some of that energy for Friday, September 17th where the band will be electrifying the stage of Neumos! The lineup for Neumos will be Curtains For You, Cody Beebe and the Crooks, and Massy Ferguson.
A day in the life of the Crooks: as one could tell this is our first blog with wordpress.com. It won’t, however, be the last. Far from it in fact!
