Tis The Season…
Having a big heart can go a long way. And it seems to me that during the holiday season, those in possession of a big heart tend to come out of the woodwork to give to those who are less fortunate in life.
On Monday, December 20th, The Crooks did their part in giving back to society and played for an excited and appreciative crowd at Nickelsville; a Seattle homeless camp. Nickelsville is located in Lake City at an old fire station with a large gated yard in the back for tent locations. Load-in was at 4:30, and we were warmly greeted by the local residents; including a few of the directors. We were given a tour of the place and a brief history of how Nickelsville came to be.
At 6 o’ clock the silence was broken in the old fire station garage as the residents gathered around the room in anticipation. We played a very warm and intimate set for everyone and even had the chance to jam out with a local guy who could play slide guitar like nobody’s business! It was truly a humbling experience for all of us in the band.
